In more than 60 years as an active photographer, Michael W. Lemberger took thousands of photographs. He also assembled a vast collection of historic photos dating from glass negatives from the 1890s to the current day.
The Lemberger Collection includes more than a million images, including historic events, world-wide locations, important people and everyday activities.
The Lemberger Collection has been donated by Mr. Lemberger’s family to the University of Iowa Libraries, Special Collections, where it will be catalogued, digitized, and made available for public use through a Creative Commons copyright license.
Much of the collection is also being made available through Fortepan Iowa, a curated collection of high-resolution Iowa images which can be freely used under a Creative Commons copyright license.
